Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 pound ground meat (lamb, beef, or a combination)

2 carrots, diced

2 celery stalks, diced

1 cup frozen peas

1 cup beef or vegetable broth

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

4 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)

Optional: Grated cheese for topping

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Once the meat is browned, add the diced carrots and celery to the skillet and cook until slightly softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the frozen peas, beef or vegetable broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a baking dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the mixture.

If desired, sprinkle grated cheese over the mashed potatoes for a cheesy topping.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the comforting flavors of Shepherd's Pie!
