Ingredients

  • 1 loaf condensed milk bread or milk bread cubed
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg optional
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional Toppings
  • Powdered sugar
  • Maple syrup
  • Fresh berries
  • Whipped cream

Method

Prepare the Baking Dish
  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Add bread cubes and spread evenly.
Make the Custard
  1. In a bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  2. Assemble
  3. Pour custard evenly over the bread. Press gently so all pieces soak up the mixture.
Chill
  1. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for deeper flavor and creamier texture.
Bake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until puffed, golden, and set in the center.
Serve
  1. Rest 10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with warm maple syrup.

Notes

Bread choice matters: Soft, enriched bread gives a custardy interior instead of a dry bake.
Overnight magic: Letting it sit overnight makes the texture extra creamy.
Golden top: For a lightly crisp top, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
