Method
Prep the Pan
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter an 8×8-inch baking dish. Add bread cubes evenly.
Make the Custard
- In a bowl, whisk condensed milk, milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
Assemble
- Pour custard over the bread. Press gently so all pieces are soaked. Add any optional mix-ins.
Bake
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
Rest & Serve
- Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Best texture: Slightly stale bread absorbs more custard.
Extra indulgent: Serve with warm vanilla sauce, caramel, or whipped cream.
Dairy swap: Use evaporated milk plus condensed milk for an even richer custard.
