Christmas Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients
  

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage casings removed
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cans 15 oz each tomato sauce
  • 1 can 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1 can 14.5 oz diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Cheese Mixture:

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped

Other:

  • 12 lasagna noodles cooked
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella for topping

Instructions
 

Prepare the meat sauce:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and diced onion until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes.

Prepare the cheese mixture:

  • In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 2 cups shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley. Mix until well combined.

Assemble the lasagna:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Lay 3 cooked lasagna noodles on top. Spread 1/3 of the cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers twice more.
  • For the final layer, top with the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese on top.

Bake the lasagna:

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Rest and serve:

  • Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
