Ingredients
  

  • 1 medium butternut squash about 2–3 cups cubed
  • 2 medium apples Honeycrisp or Granny Smith, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 –3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Optional: ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts for topping

Method
 

Preheat Oven:
  1. Preheat to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
Prepare Squash & Apples:
  1. Peel and cube the butternut squash. Peel, core, and dice the apples.
Mix Ingredients:
  1. In a large bowl, toss squash and apples with melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until evenly coated.
Bake:
  1. Transfer to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle nuts on top if using. Bake 40–45 minutes, stirring halfway, until squash is tender and lightly caramelized.
Serve:
  1. Serve warm as a side dish with pork, chicken, or enjoy as a lightly sweet dessert.

Notes

For extra flavor, drizzle 1–2 tsp maple syrup over the top before baking.
Cut squash and apples into uniform pieces for even cooking.
Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave.
Add a pinch of ginger or cloves for a spicier fall flavor.
