Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk or a combination of both
  • 1 medium apple peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup optional, for sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans, optional
  • 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • Additional toppings such as sliced bananas, extra honey, or a dollop of yogurt

Method
 

Cook the oats:
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water or milk to a boil.
  2. Stir in the rolled oats and reduce the heat to medium-low.
  3. Cook the oats for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and have absorbed most of the liquid.
Add the apple and spices:
  1. Stir in the diced apple, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Continue to cook for another 3-5 minutes, until the apple pieces are tender and the oatmeal is creamy.
Sweeten and flavor (optional):
  1. Stir in the honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, chopped nuts, and raisins or dried cranberries if using.
  2. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
Serve:
  1. Spoon the oatmeal into bowls and add any additional toppings you like.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy!
