Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Yellow food coloring gel or liquid
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips for melting
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or shortening optional, for smoother chocolate
  • Black edible marker or piping gel for ruler lines
Optional:
  • Sprinkles or sanding sugar for decoration
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13" pan with butter or nonstick spray and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
  3. Stir in a few drops of yellow food coloring until evenly distributed.
  4. Remove from heat and gently fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until well coated.
  5. Press the mixture into the prepared pan using a buttered spatula or wax paper. Flatten evenly and let set for 30 minutes.
  6. Once set, remove from the pan and cut into long rectangle “ruler” shapes (about 1"x4" strips).
  7. Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil (if using) in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments, stirring until smooth.
  8. Dip one end of each ruler treat in the melted chocolate to mimic the metal tip of a real ruler. Let harden on parchment paper.
  9. Use an edible marker or piping gel to draw ruler lines and measurements along the top of each bar.
  10. Let dry completely before serving or packaging.

Notes

For extra precision, use a real ruler to evenly space your chocolate lines.
These are great for school parties—wrap them in clear treat bags and tie with ribbon for individual giveaways.
