Ingredients

  • 1 lb Jimmy Dean pork sausage regular, hot, or maple flavor
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 6 slices bread cubed (about 3 cups) — white, sourdough, or French bread
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional add-ins: 1/2 cup diced onions 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers, or 1/2 cup cooked mushrooms

Method

Cook the Sausage:
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Jimmy Dean sausage until browned and crumbled. Drain excess grease and set aside.
Prepare the Bread Base:
  1. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread cubed bread evenly in the dish. Sprinkle cooked sausage over the bread.
Add Cheese:
  1. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage layer.
Mix the Egg Mixture:
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour evenly over the bread, sausage, and cheese.
Chill (Optional):
  1. For best flavor and texture, cover and refrigerate the casserole for at least 1 hour or overnight to let the bread absorb the egg mixture.
Bake:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
Serve:
  1. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
