Ingredients
  

Bottom Layer:
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix 15.25 oz
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
Top Gooey Layer:
  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted

Method
 

Preheat Oven:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Make Bottom Layer:
  1. In a bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, egg, and melted butter until thick. Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish.
Make Gooey Top Layer:
  1. Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs, cocoa powder, vanilla, and mix until blended. Slowly add powdered sugar, then pour in melted butter. Beat until fully combined.
Assemble the Cake:
  1. Pour the gooey mixture over the cake layer and spread evenly.
Bake:
  1. Bake for 40–45 minutes. The center should still jiggle slightly—don’t overbake!
Cool & Serve:
  1. Let cool at least 30 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or room temperature.

Notes

Even gooier? Slightly underbake for maximum gooeyness.
Topping idea: Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or drizzle with warm fudge.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temp for 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
Freezer-friendly: Freeze slices for up to 2 months.
